Since 1998, Suffolk's Organization for Uplifting Lives through Service (S.O.U.L.S.) has sponsored an Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program offering students the opportunity to spend their a week off working on service projects in cities across the United States, and sometimes beyond.
The trips focus on issues such as poverty relief, environmental conservation, LGBTQ issues and equal rights, and community development. Some classes have a service-learning class component attached.
